5 Steps to Design a Better WhatVacancy Profile and Get More Job Offers

Putting yourself in the job world is very much similar to building your own personal brand. In order to get more job offers you need to sell yourself better using the right platforms. One important first step is to have a WhatVacancy Profile. But that is not enough. In this article we will look at 5 tips to improve your WhatVacancy Profile to get more noticed and get more job offers.

1. Make a Catchy Tagline & Biography

There’s no rule that says the description at the top of your profile page has to be just a job title. Use the headline field to say a bit more about how you see your role, why you do what you do, and what makes you tick.

2. Turn Your Biography Into a Story

Your biography does not need to look like a boring CV. From our market research we have discovered that employers only look at a CV for about five seconds. Therefore keep your biography succinct, to the point and interesting – as if you are telling a short story about your professional self.

Optionally, you can also enter your LinkedIn profile inside the LinkedIn Profile URL field. This will be only be shown to the employer when you apply for a job. Otherwise, it will not be visible.

3. Add Skills Relevant to Your Desired Job

One common mistake that job seekers do is that they add a ton of skills that may not be necessarily be related to the job they desire. For this reason, WhatVacancy allows to only add five skills at most.

If you are looking for a job in Finance, it makes sense to add skills related to the Finance category, and perhaps skills related with IT (to demonstrate your IT literacy).

However it does not make sense to also say that you are skilled in fixing your own electricity at home – while it might be relevant in your personal life, it will sound off for the job your are aiming to get.

4. Add Your Most Recent and Relevant Qualifications

When it come to qualifications, adopt the same strategy as before – since you can only add up to five qualifications, make sure you only add those qualifications that make sense for the jobs you are aiming for.

In other words, avoid qualifications or education that you got for a DIY or hobby. As an example, if you are aiming for a Finance job, avoid putting your Certification in Photography as one of your qualifications.

5. Do Not Enter Private Contact Details

Make sure that you do not put any personal details such as your name or email address inside your biography section. WhatVacancy is designed to hide your contact details – when companies and recruiters browse through recommended matched profiles, they are only able to see tagline, biography, skills and qualifications. This is to guarantee your privacy and safety.
